Light Therapy

Because light is highly potent to influence our circadian system, it can be used as a therapeutic tool to counteract such circadian misalignment and therefore prevent many of the negative consequences. Light therapy is used to help people suffering from seasonal affective disorder, major depression, baby blues, and is even safe to treat depression during pregnancy. It is also used in patients who suffer from disorders of their internal clock, so-called circadian rhythm disorders.

With light therapy, we can also help to synchronize shift workers to their work schedules that do not follow the environmental light-dark cycle, or help to overcome jet lag much quicker and thus enhance performance, health and well-being of professionals who frequently travel across time zones. Combined with other chronobiological tools, for instance wrist actigraphy devices, which are used to track motor activity during sleep and wake by recording arm movements, and sleep diaries, light therapy enables us to take interventions to improve wellbeing, performance and health of patients and professionals.

On our website, we provide information about and advice on light therapy, optimized sleep schedules and chronobiological tools to counteract negative consequences of shift work and jet lag, but also to improve depressive symptoms or enhance general wellbeing and performance. Therapeutic tools mainly include selected therapy lamps or individually adapted light solutions at home or work, wrist actimetry and sleep logs. We advise private persons, health professionals from other fields, business professionals, and industries.
